Hey Ryan, We Got Sent Your Page..

I got my first client! I was absolutely buzzing when a local start-up reached out to me on Instagram after being referred by an ex-colleague. They were looking for an online store to sell their products, and it felt incredible to know that my website had already begun attracting clients.

Naturally, I wanted to impress them, over-deliver, and ensure their online success. But I quickly realised I was getting ahead of myself. The first step was a video meeting where I could meet the team and understand their needs, as well as what I could deliver.

The day before the meeting, I started making notes and bullet points on what to say. It was during this time I realised something crucial – I needed a proper process in place for onboarding clients. This meant having clear steps, requirements, and a timeline. I spent the day mapping out the process, and it turned out to be an incredibly beneficial experience that laid the foundation for my future work.

The next challenge was coming up with a price. Freelancing often raises the question: what’s the right price point? My business needed money to grow, but I also wanted to remain competitive while ensuring my clients were happy. After much thought, I decided to offer a budget-friendly quote to ensure they would sign with me. My goal was to focus on local start-ups, and a more affordable price seemed fair and aligned with my long-term vision.

The meeting went great! We clicked immediately – it felt like we were both in the same boat, trying to get our start-ups off the ground. Next, it was time to send over a legal agreement and get to work!
