How I Started My Journey as a Web Design Start-Up

When I first had the idea to launch a Start-Up, I knew there were many aspects to consider. I started by mind mapping my ideas – with Start-Up in the centre and branching off into areas like website, social media, marketing, products, and merch. It quickly became clear that the central focus wasn’t just the Start-Up itself, but the website that would bring it all together.

I took a deep dive into how to build a website. The process felt overwhelming, with countless methods to choose from. After some research, I realised that Shopify would be ideal for e-commerce sites, while WordPress was perfect for portfolio or brand promotion websites. Armed with this knowledge, I set to work building my own site, knowing it had to represent my services and my work. If my website wasn’t great, why would anyone hire me?

As I worked through the development and design, I soon discovered that there was far more to creating a website than just the technical side. I had to choose a domain name, set up server hosting, and navigate other essential processes. Eventually, www.ryanloughran.com was born!

This process confirmed that web design for Start-Ups was the niche I needed to focus on. It also reminded me of the complexity that new business owners face when trying to create their online presence. But despite the challenges and the financial risks of starting my own business, I knew this was the right move.

Now, with my website live, I knew my Start-Up journey had truly begun.
